These are my Badass “Motherpluckers”. Plucking ducks in the misty-May 5am-Vashon morning.

That’s Rose Allred on the right. Most of you know her very well from the Farmer’s Markets. She’s the mother of my children. She’s also the most amazing woman I know. She does so much it boggles the mind. Feeding the animals, plucking the ducks, butchering the beef, stuffing the sausage, chopping the chops, crafting the charcuterie, fixing the fences. And she does most of it with 8 month old Madrona strapped to her breast and 2 1/2 year old Roman tugging at her dress. She truly amazes me every day. This week she’s added some fun new products to our online store for you to pickup between 9am and NOON at the University District market on Saturday or the Ballard market on Sunday. OR, she will deliver directly to your door anywhere within King County, (which happens to include Vashon Island!)

On the left is Maeva Raymond. She’s been our dear friend here on Vashon for several years. She’s the mother of Indra, Roman’s best buddy. (He calls her “MY Indra”). She started helping us on about day 6 of the current apocalypse on a Friday night at 5pm when we were so overwhelmed with the enormous demand for our farm-fresh foods that Rose and I were staring down the barrel of back-to-back 22 hour work days and were teetering into the abyss of physical exhaustion. One quick text message and Maeva was boots-on-the-ground ready to kick some ass. She’s been showing up at 5am every day since doing more of the same. She’s also a Badass Motherplucking Duck-Plucker. She fishes in Bristol Bay Alaska every summer so she’s leaving us for a couple of months next week. We’ll miss her dearly, but we look forward to rockin’ the farm with her again when she returns in August.

Below, you’ll find a sweet photo of Roman and Indra hanging out together.

Then, a photo of Madrona and I.

And finally, a nice shot of our beautiful cows enjoying the lush, verdant pastures of May on Vashon Island with the Seattle skyline in the background!

As always, we look forward to seeing you at the markets this weekend.

Peace and love my friends.

I miss you all,

xoxo

George
