Turning Two

Two years ago today Rose gently and quietly delivered our lovely daughter Amora into the warm water of an antique clawfoot tub in Portland, Oregon. It was the most beautiful of all the births that I have witnessed. Rose’s expression of her love and instantaneous naming of Amora have been a beacon of hope and strength for our entire family through a particularly challenging period in our transition from Birkenfeld to Portland.

Now, two years after opening and establishing Coq au Vin in Portland, we are back at Neverstill Ranch in Birkenfeld, Oregon renewing our focus on improving the farm production to supply our delightful dining experiences. The last week here has been a much needed respite from the city, filling our lungs with fresh mountain air, onshore Pacific Ocean breezes and renewing our inspiration for farming and fooding! And with Rose in the final weeks of her gestational journey, she is deep in “nesting” mode, busily tidying and tucking and cozying the farmhouse in preparation for the impending birth!

In celebration of the two year milestones today, Roman (7) baked Amora a towering cake made with fresh picked farm blueberries and a honey-fromage blanc frosting. Then we traipsed across the pasture to our peaceful beach on the Nehalem River, enjoying paddles in the canoe, swimming and splashing in the river, catching newts and river mussels and building a cheery campfire.

Although we are living full time on the farm again, we continue to operate our prix fixe dining experiences at Coq au Vin during the evenings. Below is our current summer menu and a link to make reservations. We look forward to hosting you at Coq au Vin this month and perhaps even on the farm later this Summer!
