The Daily Egg: Edition One — Rosemary's Egg

The Daily Egg

My new morning ritual at the farm centers on our farmhouse kitchen. After a recent rearrangement, I carved out a simple laptop nook by the windows overlooking the verdant pastures. To my right, the old wooden door opens to the wraparound porch; just left of it, in a half-wine-barrel planter, thrives a substantial rosemary bush. I brew my caffè latte, settle in, and watch the valley’s weather dance—lacy mist oozing down the western mountains like slow honey, patches of blue sky, sudden pelts of rain or hail, then the mid-morning sun breaking through to bathe fields and forests in golden light.

Rosemary the hen
Every morning, right on cue, a black-and-brown mottled hen struts up the porch steps, hops into the rosemary barrel directly in my line of sight, and settles in. She tilts her head, fixing one bright eye on me through the glass as if to say, “This is my spot, human.” Twenty minutes later, she hops out, flaps proudly, and raucously announces her gift with a triumphant cluck—The Daily Egg. I step out, collect the still-warm ovarian offering, bid her “Thanks, Rosemary”, and return to my latte with a chuckle, knowing my one-egg omelette will be as fresh as it gets.

Which brings me to today’s launch: The Daily Egg. Each morning, straight from the farm to your inbox, expect a tidy “one-egg omelette” of culinary ideas: quick tips, seasonal inspirations, simple recipes, kitchen tricks, and little stories like this one that remind us why real food matters. These won’t be my typical long-format stories, but rather fresh, bite-sized delights to start your day.
A note on the Daily Egg—I will place these missives in a separate “subscription”, so you can opt out of them separate from our normal newsletters and updates from the farm, restaurant and Magic Meat Truck if you prefer.
And please, DO respond with comments and thoughts. I look forward to making this an interactive forum as we launch our new cook.book platform (which you will be hearing about shortly!)
Until tomorrow,
Cluck, cluck!
